Lucite and I are having a moment lately. Well, not just Lucite, but any kind of clear acrylic – it may be best known as the main component in stripper heels, but it also has many lovely modernist applications, particularly in home decor.
It also has its place in a slightly more retro aesthetic, which the Judith Leiber Streamline Frosted Lucite Clutch displays beautifully.
Not only is this bag a bit of a departure from the super-bedazzled object clutches that made the brand famous, but it’s also a little different than the ultra modern furniture that I’ve been looking at because the Lucite isn’t crystal clear. The folks at Leiber have frosted it, preventing your belongings from being obvious to anyone that might glance at your bag.
And if you’re carrying this sublime slice of Art Deco loveliness, people will definitely look. The designers edited this bag perfectly – the clear rectangular crystals at the sides are just enough to provide Leiber’s signature sparkle while still making it totally accessible to anyone that wants a little 1920s retro goodness in their lives (or wardrobes).
As you see, many famous European or American stars always like handing a small in their hands when they are walking on the red carpet or when they are shopping. In fact, you also can brighten yourself in some public places. Now, let me show you four Judith Leiber luxurious mini clutches.
Judith Leiber Sphere Clutch
This bag is Studio 54. It’s John Travolta in that white suit in Saturday Night Fever. This bag is really trying to make disco happen.
Judith Leiber Peacock Clutch
As it is, the clutch is attractive enough, but it looks more like a snowflake than a peacock when you look at it quickly. Usually Leiber goes all-out with color when she makes an object clutch, but this one just seems a bit dreary.
Judith Leiber Cherish Minaudiere
‘Tis the season, you guys. For gifts and days off from work and family togetherness, of course. Oh, and also for sparkly clutches for use at holiday parties. Don’t forget that one, it’s important.
Judith Leiber Sunburst Clutch
Some of my personal favorite handbags are ones that so accurately capture a bygone era that they could probably be passed off as really fantastic vintage finds. So much in fashion is predicated on what has been done in the past that a designer deftly recreating the mood of a time period can show a great deal of skill, if done correctly.
